| Reanimating The Dead Now A Reality
Some June 2005 reports in the British media portrayed the situation as scientists creating scary zombie dogs, but the reality is actually a hopeful one, abetting life not death. Badly injured people and animals may soon be kept in lengthy and reliable suspended animation until they can be properly treated.
For this, scientists at the Safar Center for Resuscitation Research in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania have come up with an improved version of their technique in which animals' blood is drained out and then replaced with a cold salt solution. (This method was used in their experiments at least as early as 2002.) When the experimental animal is thus rendered clinically dead, operations can be performed, since the lowering of the body temperature with a cold flush solution to 7 degrees Centigrade allows time for quality surgery. Up to three hours later, the salt solution is removed and replaced with blood, and the animal is subjected to electric shock and 100% oxygen — which brings it back to life. Tests have shown that after an animal has returned to normal, its brain is undamaged. Pitt's Safar Center in Oakland announced in late June that three hours of suspended animation had been achieved, surpassing earlier results by an hour.
Because of the animal cruelty concerns of some, the Safar Center has stated that its tests on animals are done under strict oversight by the University of Pittsburgh's veterinary staff, and that anesthesia and pain medications are administered under rigorous standards.
Human experiments making use of the radical techniques are expected to begin in 2006.
The Safar Center (originally the International Resuscitation Research Center) was founded in 1979 by the late Peter Safar, pioneer of "mouth-to-mouth" resuscitation, CPR, and many ambulance practices. In the 1980s he began serious development of "big chill" suspended animation, so doctors will have a useful tool with which to save people under adverse conditions such as battlefields.
The use of cold to slow body processes has already been put into practice, at least to some extent. Mild cooling methods have been used at Vienna General Hospital and at hospitals in Melbourne, Australia for a few years, to no known macabre comment.
A connection to horror and science fiction in both Boris Karloff use of a "big chill" technique in the science-fictional complications of his 1940 movie The Man With Nine Lives and H.P. Lovecrafts Cold Air, where a brilliant scientist keeps himself alive after death through air conditioning.
Such public conceptions of the link to sci-fi and horror are likely to die down, as it were, and the new techniques will become as popular as the earlier methods Safar helped develop. Of course, controversy was no stranger to Safar's work. One of his mottos was "when on thin ice, dance." Dr. Patrick Kochanek, the present Safar Center director, is carrying on a vital legacy.

| Ghost Stories
Here is the site of the old public gallows in Savannah. Unfortunately, there's nothing left to show for it, but you can kind of imagine it if you try. Anyway, it's suspected that the reason the square is so heavily infested witih cockroches is all those criminal spirits
Now you ask "what did they do with the bodies?" Well, they buried them right across the street. Right there underneath the old Lindsay & Morgan Company building.
There's a shop on the first floor and I think there's an art studio on the second floor - but the 3rd and 4th floors are empty. This is because the owner stopped trying to rent it out because everybody who lived there broke the lease in a few weeks time. Apparently, one of the tenants heard a bunch of noise downstairs one night - like the shopkeeper was moving furniture around - and the next day he mentioned it to the shopkeeper, who claimed that he hadn't been in the shop that night at all. And a couple of other tenants who were renting the 3rd and 4th floors heard someone walking around downstairs and come up the stairs, stopping just outside the door. This occurred several times until, finally, the footsteps stopped just outside the door and the door handle was turned ... slowly ... and nothing was there! The couple, who had called the cops at the first sign of an intruder, met the police officers as they fled through the front door and told the police that someone/thing had entered their room. The police did a thorough search of the place and, of course, found nothing. Suffice it to say, they moved out that night...
| THE DEVIL'S CIRCLES
There is a tale of a twenty foot diameter circle called "the Devil's Circle" deep in the Black Water Swamp of Floridas Lake County, near where the Wekiva River meets the St. John's river. Reportedly nothing grows inside this circle, it has always been totally barren of plant life and is extremely dry of moisture, even after heavy rains. Folklore has it, that objects placed inside the circle overnight will vanish. I have found that such circular places are mentioned and exist in many states, Florida has several of these places, another supposedly in the Green Swamp, west of Orlando. The most publicized "circle" is in North Carolina just outside of Siler City, which has been mentioned in numerous publications on the unexplained. Almost all of these weird circles are dubbed "devils circles." One theory is that certain abnormal soil conditions prevent flora from growing inside these areas, perhaps as a result of some kind of chemical reaction. Of course there are an endless number of theories about what causes these weird circles; including the possibility that they were landing sites of UFOs, and residual radiation has permanently altered the soil, or they were places of pagan rituals and actually visited by the devil. It is interesting to note, that most of the circles are reported to be nearly the same size in circumference. This would certainly support the bizarre theory of a UFO landing site. However, to be objective other possibilities must be considered. One research team conducted soil sample tests from two such circles and found that, in both cases, there was a zero level of nitrogen in the samples and an extremely high level of sodium and iodine content when compared to the surrounding soil. This would affect the growth of plant life. Another observation was that insects normally found in the same areas, i.e. ants, beetles, and etc, are seldom found within these circles. No ant hills, nor insect holes, have been noted within the perimeters of the circles. The team conducted overnight tests concerning objects disappearing from inside the circles but did not experience this phenomenon. Objects that thier researchers had left overnight inside the circles were still there in the next morning. Only one test, involving a cardboard box and a bottle, was there any unexplained physical effect. This test was conducted at the Round Cypress Circle in Seminole County. In that test, both the box and bottle were dumped over and moved during the night. There were no animal or human footprints noted within the circle; however there had been a slight breeze during the night which could have explained the movement of the objects.
While these circles exist, they have not been fully classified as natural or supernatural.
| Hauntings in the Hurricane
On September 16, 2005, the Bay Area television station CBS 5 broadcast a report (currently archived at http://cbs5.com/video/?id=6789@kpix.dayport.com) concerning a California National Guard unit, stationed at New Orleans' Sophie B. Wright Middle School, and its encounters with a ghostly little girl. The school, an imposing edifice erected in 1912, is located on Napoleon Avenue in the city's Uptown neighborhood.
The report featured two members of the unit who saw the apparition, and a third who heard her laughter when opening a closet containing cleaning supplies. The events prompted a National Guard chaplain to perform a rite of exorcism. CBS 5 reporter Janet Yee also mentioned seeing a "cloud" in an empty restroom.
A September 21 Washington Post article by Manuel Roig-Franzia profiled devastation in Louisiana's Plaquemines Parish, downstream from New Orleans. Roig-Franzia quoted John Barthelemy, a parish councilman: "On the night before the storm, Barthelemy says quite seriously, a good friend of his walked home with a whole pack of ghosts. Barthelemy asked him if he was scared, and the man replied, 'What they gonna do? The dead can't hurt me.'"
On the same night, parish resident Lynell Williams "saw two lines of ghosts — 'bright people,' she noted, invoking a local colloquialism for whites — marching over the levee. The ghosts were getting out...."
When the ghosts evacuate, it's probably time to leave.
| A policy of blood and mysticismAhnenerbe was the most secret service of the Third Reich
Ukrainian workers found strange graves at a construction in one of the towns in the south of Ukraine. The graves were found at a depth of two or two and a half meters.
At first, they thought that it was an ancient Scythian graveyard. Then, someone saw a medallion of a German soldier in one of the coffins. The finding was a grave of German soldiers. However, when archeologists arrived to the site, they were shocked with what they saw. Some of the human skeletons in the grave had their spines sawn lengthwise. Some of them did not have heads, while others had skull trepanation. Other skeletons had little holes drilled in their cannon-bones. After that, there were tens of other graves found. They were all covered with lime and calcium chloride. Some of the human remains preserved the vestiges of chemical impact. Someone was trying to find a “third eye” in the heads of several officers: their skulls were opened in several places.
Experts determined that the found graves were the vestiges of Ahnenerbe’s activities. This was the most secret organization of the Third Reich. The people of the true Aryan race were its victims. Ahnenerbe’s doctors believed that medical tests and experiments were supposed to eventually result in a new breed of a human being.
Scythian fields are not the only place where Nazi mystics performed their horrid tests. They were travelling all over the world. Ahnenerbe means “Ancestors’ Inheritance;” the organization appeared in 1933. After the establishment of Hitler’s regime in Germany, Ahnenerbe was entrusted with searching for anything dealing with spirit, traditions, and peculiar features of the Indo-German Nordic race. In 1937, the Ahnenerbe was incorporated into the SS. The study of the ancient German history was conducted with only one goal: to prove the superiority of the Aryan race within the scope of the Nazi race doctrine.
First-class scientists took part in the research. They performed expeditions to Tibet, the Middle East, and Ukraine. When WWII started, research of ancient German culture was reduced. New projects were totally devoted to anthropological research, including infamous research in Dachau and Auschwitz.
Ahnenerbe was founded by philosopher Friedrich Gilscher and Doctor German Hirt. It is interesting that professor Gilscher never became a member of the National Socialist German Workers' Party. He was in friendly relations with Jewish philosopher Martin Buber. In the beginning of 1940s, Hirt was appointed to the position of chairman of the Anatomic Institute in Strasbourg. The institute was working on the scientific substantiation of the race theory. In the summer of 1944, Hirt was ordered to destroy his laboratories. He did not manage to do that, so the allied troops found numerous beheaded corpses. Hirt disappeared afterwards. People say that he was seen in Chile and in Paraguay.
Karl Maria Willigut was the most conspicuous person in the organization. He was known as an outstanding specialist in the field of black magic. He was called Himmler’s Rasputin due to his immense influence on Nazi high-ranking officials. His last name is translated as the “god of will.” According to mystical terminology, this is a synonym to a “fallen angel.” Karl Willigut died in 1946; he was never called into criminal account for his activities.
It is also worth mentioning that Ahnenerbe maintained contacts with Tibet. When Soviet troops entered Berlin in 1945, they were very surprised to find thousands of Tibetan corpses in SS uniforms.
Ahnenerbe’s members were all tall, muscular, blond men, like in all other Nazi services. They were supposed to be married in their twenties. Marriages could only be racially pure. Ahnenerbe was preoccupied with the same issues as the Soviet Institute of Human Brain. They tried to invent a psychotropic weapon there in order to obtain control over the human mind. Experiments and tests were performed on people. Ahnenerbe also dealt with the study of occultism, vivisection on people, espionage, invention of the arms of retaliation, and so on and so forth. By the end of the war, the Germans had nine scientific enterprises that were testing projects of “flying disks.” Some scientists say that Ahnenerbe had a large base in Antarctica. There are rumors that this base still exists. According to other rumors, there is an underground city called New Berlin there with a two-million-strong population. The people of the underground city allegedly deal with genetic engineering and space exploration. Indirect proof of such a city is the fact that UFOs can often be seen around the South Pole. In 1976, the Japanese saw 19 round objects at once. They all came down on Antarctica from space and vanished from radar screens. Furthermore, scientists found several ownerless satellites in orbit around Earth.
Crystal skulls were one of the most mysterious findings of the 20th century. The skulls were found in Central America during an expedition of the well-known English archaeologist Albert Mitchell. The skulls were delivered to a Brazilian museum. Ahnenerbe agents were detained after an attempt to rob the museum in 1943. They said during interrogations that they had been sent to South America with a special task: to obtain crystal skulls. The Nazis were hoping that Aryan ancestors’ knowledge would allow them to create a superman and place other people under their command. Some experts say that those crystal skulls were made in Atlantis. If this was really so, then it is clear why the SS was so interested in them. When the war was over, the majority of Ahnenerbe members disappeared without leaving a trace.
